Einführung
Please take a moment and read this short guide. Here you will learn how to use PhotoSz optimally and how to ensure that you will not lose any data.

With PhotoSz you can manipulate your images from several sources. That means that the specific images become modified in size, in view, and if you wish, in file-type.

PhotoSz makes it easy to recover lot's of images. You can use it for your product-images, which you have fresh shooted and want to upload to the internet, e.g. to an online-shop.

PhotoSz ensures that your images become fit to the right size and to the right file-type. PhotoSz ensures that you images get your company's logo and / or motto drawn over.

Your logo or your motto become paste as a watermark on your images. You have to bring your own logo-image by yourself. Further more, PhotoSz provides several watermark pictures for free and for commercial use. For more watermark pictures you can visit and download from our website for free.

Program-Setup Here you can configure general settings for PhotoSz.
The main-macdow
Under the toolbar there are some fields. These are the Pixel-Size and the Date.

The Pixel-Size will shrink or stretch all the images in the sources to the defined size automatically. The Pixel-Size can be manipulated vertically or horizontally only. The other-side will resize proportionally to the main side, so that the images will always fit to the correct scale.

The Date can be disabled. If it's disabled, then the hook isn't set beside to the date. If this is the case, all images in the sources become modified. If you check the hook and enable the date, then you can define a specific date. If this is the case, then there will modified all the images matching with this date because of their creation-date or last-modified-date (depends on operating system).
If you want to manipulate images from one source only, e.g. the My Pictures, you need to enter to the panel called Unique directory. Here you can type te source or you can click on the button ... and select the directory by mouse.
If you want to manipulate images from several sources, e.g. from My Pictures and some other sources, you need to enter to the panel called More directories. Then click onto the list-area with the right mouse-button. A menu will blow up. Pick up the option Add to append a directory to the list. You can repeat this procedure so often you need.
In both cases you can also manipulate the images in the sub-directories, if they exist.

Unter the panel, there are a couple of further opion-fields to use from. These are the follomacg:
  • Save as: Here you can decide, if the new image-copies have to save in the original file-type of each original file or in a specific file-type. PhotoSz supports PNG, JPEG, JPEG2000 and Bitmap.
  • Filenames: Here you can decide, if the new fileames will become similar to the original filenames or if you want to organize them in another way:
    • No changes: The new filenames become similar to the original filenames or will become simply modified, if this is needed ( i.g. because of strictly forbiddeness of the deleting of the original images ).
    • Filter problematic characters: The new filenames become, if possible, similar to the original filenames. But if there are special characters or problematic characters, then those will removed from the filenames. All letters that are not in the english alphabet are problematic characters. This method converts filenames into ones that can read by non-unicode operating systems.
    • Filter and numberize: The new filenames become, if possible, similar to the original filenames. But if there are special characters or problematic characters, then those will removed from the filenames. All letters that are not in the english alphabet are problematic characters. This method converts filenames into ones that can read by non-unicode operating systems. Additionally all filenames become numberized in their own directories beginning with the number 1.
    • Numberize and keep names: The new filenames become similar to the original filenames or will become simply modified, if this is needed. Additionally all filenames become numberized in their own directories beginning with the number 1.
    • Numberize only: The filenames become numberized in their own directories beginning with the number 1 like this: 1 - Image, 2 - Image, 3 - Image etc.
  • Effedt: Here you can apply effects to your pictures:
    • No effects: PhotoSz will not use any effect.
    • Transparent-border: If you select this option, you ca click on the Edit on the right to get into the settings-view. There you can set up the color, the density, the transparency and the margin of the border however you like it.
    • Grayscale: This effect will turn the colors of all your pictures into grayscale.
  • Watermark: Here you can paste watemark-pictures onto your images. That means that you e.g. paste your company's logo on all of your images. The picture (logo) should be in transparent PNG-format for optimal use. It is also possible to use text as watermark instead of an image or additionally.
The main-macdow provides you additional options that are optional for use:
  • Don't remove original images: Normally, if this option is not set (not hooked), PhotoSz reads each image and generates a new copy of it and deletes the old image. But if you set the hook to this option, then PhotoSz ensures that the original images never get deleted and never get modified. But the new images will be generated and if required, they become renamed.
  • Filter: Here you can define filter rules. PhotoSz will filter all image files that matches by the rules. Those files will not get modified, operated or changed in any other way. They will keep unaffected of the entire process.
  • Advanced: Here you can set up further rules to control how PhotoSz works through your images.
The date
If you set a hook before the date at the top, right-side of the main-macdow, so you can click onto the Edit button.

PhotoSt will modify images from the given date only. All other images will keep unaffected from the entire process.

If you click on the Edit button, then PhotoSz switches to the settings-view of the date. From here you can decide:
  • in which font the date has to drawn,
  • in which size,
  • and, if required, in which format
  • and color
If you click on the button Preview, then the Preview-side on the right-side of the PhotoSz main-macdow will shown. Here you can see, how your images approximately look like after the modification process.
Effect-Applying
If you select in main-macdow the option Transparent-border at Effect and click at the right-side onto the button Edit, you will switch to the settings-view of the transparent-border.

Here you can customize the transparent-border as follows:
  • You can change the border-color,
  • you can change the border-margin to the corners,
  • you can change the border-density,
  • and you can change the opacity of the border.
To have a clear imagination how the border will look-like on your images, click the button Preview to see some samples.

Note that the border has the minimum density as default and therefore it's barely to noticeable.
The watermark
Set a hook before the option Watermark in the main-macdow and follow the instructions:

Click on the button Onto corner. This button keeps pressed and the button next to this one ... become clickable.

Click onto that button ... and switch to it's settings-view. Here you have the possibility to select an image-file that become paste to one corner on all your images.

Attension:
  • It's recommanded to use a transparent PNG-image for professional and optimal look.
  • The view of the watermark-picture in the Preview can deviate from the real result, but no panik. The watermark-picture has to be in a size that is smaller then the Pixel-size that shell get applied to all of your images. Otherwise the result maybe becomes not really good.
Set a hook before the option Watermark in the main-macdow and follow the instructions:

Click on the button Onto center. This button keeps pressed and the button next to this one ... become clickable.

Click onto that button ... and switch to it's settings-view. Here you have the possibility to select an image-file that become paste to the center on all your images.

Attensiob:

Click onto that button ... and switch to it's settings-view. Here you have the possibility to write a text-line as a watermark-text, e.g. as your motto or slogan, on all your images. To ensure the effect of the watermark-text, the text-line becomes a transparent stripe beyond that will stretched through the entire image. Here you can also:
  • decide, in which way the watermark-stripe has to drawn,
  • in which color the stripe has to be,
  • Whether and what has to write as a text-line onto the stripe,
  • and in which font, size, format and color.
To have a clear imagination how the result will look-like on your images, click the button Preview to see some samples.

You can use all three watermark-models together, in two combinations, single or you can completely abstain this option. To take use of a watermark it's enough to set the hook for Watermark and select minimally one of the Watermark-buttons ( Onto corner, Onto center, Stripe ).
Advanced settings
The advanced settings allows you to control how PhotoSz has to work:
  • Preparing: Here are tasks that run, before PhotoSz starts to manipulate your images.
    • Back up images before edit them: If you set the hook for this option, PhotoSz creates a sub-directory of each source and copy the original images in this sub-directory as a Back-Up. In this Back-Up-Folder, PhotoSz also creates a special file called PhotoSz-Backup. This file ensures that the folder can identify itself as a BackUp-Folder for a later PhotoSz-Manipulation-Process. PhotoSz will never make any changes to images in folders that also contain this special file.
    • Create a new directory and create the images in it: If you set the hook for this option, then PhotoSz will ask you, where you want to store your new images, which will be created from your original images. The new images become created and stored in the special place you want and the original images become kept in their soures without any changes. If this option is enabled, then the option above Back up images before edit them and the option in the main-macdow Don't remove original images become ignored.
  • Smaller or same-sized images: Here you can tell PhotoSz that some images will always get skipped. Those images will never changed and keep unaffected:
    • Do not modify images smaller then the applying pixel-size: If the Pixel-size at the top of the main-macdow, at the left-side, as a sample, has the value 500 and the applying direction is the Width, then all images in the sources that are in the width smaller then 500 pixels will be ignored and will never get changed. They keep unaffected fom the entire process.
    • Ignore images that are in the applying pixel-size: If the Pixel-size at the top of the main-macdow, at the left-side, as a sample, has the value 500 and the applying direction is the Width, then all images in the sources that are in the width exactly 500 pixels in width will be ignored and will never get changed. They keep unaffected fom the entire process.
  • Applying limit: Here you can set more filter rules. PhotoSz normally manipulates all images of all sizes. Now you have the possibility to skip automatically all images that for sample are 1 MB or larger in size. All filtered images keep unaffected from the entire process.
Filter rules
Here you define keywords that become filter-rules. PhotoSz will scan all filenames before make any changes to them with this keywords. If minimally one keyword become find in the filename, the file will automatically skipped and will not changed and keeps unaffected from the entire process.

Die Groß- und Kleinschreibung der Schlüsselwörter wird von PhotoSz nicht unterschieden. PhotoSz does not differentiate between uppercase or lowercase of letters in the filenames. All a affected.

To enable this filter-rules you have to set the hook at Filter keywords.
The preview
The preview can be shawn from all relevant settings-views by a button called Preview. The specific button is always at the bottom, left-side of each view.

Alternatively you can resize the main-macdow by the mouse in the horizontal view. In this way you can show or hide the preview manually.

The Preview provides a very realistic preview of the formats, the watermarks and the border, how they look approximately on all of your images after the process.

But te Preview is limited to a view in 240 pixels of size. Watermark-pictures that has to paste on larger images (with higher resolution), will shawn divergent form the actually view, on the preview-images. But this is OK.
PhotoSz-Files
The profile can be created by clicking on the button Save on the toolbar (secon icon/diskette). This file contains all settigns which are needed for a process. That are
  • all of the directories and opions in the main-macdow,
  • settings for the date,
  • settings for effects,
  • settings for the watermark(s) (In this case, the images you want to use as Watermarks, will also saved into the file),
  • settings for the filter and
  • the advanced settings.
The file can be stored on different kind of disks and can be used on different computers and operating systems like Windows and Macintosh.
This file is the PhotoSz-BackUp. This file will automatically created into BackUp-Folders. This folders will also created by PhotoSz automatically to create BackUps of the original images. This file ensures that the content of a folder with this file will never changed and kept unaffected from the entire process.
Important note
Avert data-loss

Before modify your images, it's recommanded to create BackUp-copies of all your images. Click on the bottom of the main-macdow on Advanced and set a hook to the first or second option there.

Or set a hook on the left-side of the option Don't remove original images... at the bottom of the main-macdow.

Anyway you should make BackUp's of your files in external storage-devices.

Hard Disk Storage

It's recommanded to organize enough freespace on your harddisk. The need of space depends on how much images you want to modify and how large they all completeley are.
