When you purchase a licensed and unlocked version of the software, you may install and use that software on one computer. As such, you may use that software as you like, including any modifications you may whish to do inside the plug-in to customize it to your likings, but you may not sell or distribute such modified or unmodified versions of the software.
How to order an unlocked version of the plug-in
The demo version is limited to 10 photos, and at the bottom of the index page there is a link to BragIt where this plug-in comes from. Although the plug-in will continue to function with more than 10 photos in the collection, you can not navigate between more than the first 10 photos.
To get rid of these limitations, purchase an unlocked version. You can do this from the product page: http://photo.bragit.com/Lightroom/WebGalleryPlugin.shtml.
Version number, and what's new in this version
As of this writing, the version of this plug-in is 1.3. The version of the plug-in can be seen in the Lightroom Web module from the menu: Web > About "BragIt HTML Slideshow"
.
See the document ReleaseNotes.html for information about what is new in this version.
System requirements
The plug-in requires Adobe Lightroom 3 or later, either in Mac OS or Windows. Version 3.2 or later is recommended.
Slideshow compatibility
The HTML pages that this plug-in creates will render well in the following browsers:
- Safari 3 or later on Mac OS and Windows: Works perfect, and you always get color managed images.
- Firefox 3 or later on Mac OS and Windows: Works perfect, but you only get color managed images with Firefox 3.5 and only if the monitor icc profile is not version 4.
- Internet Explorer 8, Opera 10, Chrome 3: Works perfect, but you will not get color managed images, since none of these browsers support any form of color management whatsoever!
- Internet Explorer 6 and 7: Works well, but you will not get color managed images, and drop shadows will be hard instead of soft and smooth.
With Firefox 2, the slideshow works, but the index page is not formatted the way it should. The page displays a text line at the top of the index page saying that it is an old version of the browser and the user is encouraged to upgrade. Likewise, users with Internet Explorer that is older than version 6 are similarly encouraged to upgrade.
Known issues, hints
- In Windows XP, Lightroom always renders web galleries using Internet Explorer 6 or 7, even if you have installed Internet Explorer 8 or another browser! To see the gallery rendered in a better browser than IE 7, click on "Preview in Browser...".
- In the Lightroom web module, there is a "Preview" panel intended for an iconized view of the template, if such a view is provided. This plug-in does not provide such a preview/icon.
- In the Collection Description field, if you want to enter a line break, you can do that by writing the html code: "<br>". However, Lightroom will not automatically update the page to show that. But if you click Reload in the Web menu, it will reload with the line break visible the way it will look in the browser.
- Under Image info, a bug in Lightroom prevents the setting for Caption to automatically update the page. But if you click Reload in the Web menu, or go the another photo, it will reload with visible changes. The settings for Headline and Reference, however, are always updated dynamically as they should.
- When you leave the Collection Description empty, the two dotted lines above/below the description should automatically be removed, but to make Lightroom show this you may need to force Lightroom to reload the page; normally, this is done from the menu 'Web > Reload', but on Windows you often need to click a photo or do some other change (such as toggle the Identity Plate) to really force it to reload.
- In the Identity Plate, it may be necessary to add a couple of spaces at the left in order to make the plate centered. This is because Lightroom creates a PNG image with left-aligned content and a lot of space to the right.
- Maximum sizes without scroll? I have found by practical testing, that with an index page width of 1200 px and full frame image size of 1000 px wide by 620 px tall, it will just about fit a 1280x800 px screen in Safari/Mac or IE/Windows without scroll lists, and if users press F11 it will also fit Firefox/Windows.
- Localization (language support): Some strings are translated into other languages than English, whereas others are not. If you want to make an effort yourself to translate more strings into a preferred language, you can do that by editing special text files. Contact BragIt for more information on how to do that. However, it will only work with languages that Lightroom supports.
