Catalyst is actually a collection of finely tuned modules that can work with each other to provide a wide array of basic features found in most Perl Web apps.
Catalyst-developed applications will run on almost any OS platform and with any server like FastCGI, IIS, Zeus, Apache (mod_perl) or lighttpd.
As mentioned above, this is due to the plethora of modules included with Catalyst, but the framework also includes its own custom server, mainly recommended for development purposes.
Catalyst has been around for many years, being in the past used for major websites like the BBC or Opera.
